Government has a thirst for creating and using spatial data for a wide array of uses. Traditionally, each government developed in isolation geo-spatial applications and tools for agency or mission-specific capabilities. This resulted in jurisdictions being unable to access data collected by other jurisdictions. With the advent of Web 2.0 type technologies and online mapping resources governments can now share spatial data and collaborate with multiple users across jurisdictional boundaries.
